Located on the breathtaking Mendocino Coast, this private vacation residence's owners looked for the most energy efficient cooling system for the summer months. The system would replace the original mechanical ventilation system that was ineffective. MDS proposed a natural ventilation system and used a CFD (Computer Fluid Dynamics) model to optimize the location of the intake and relief openings around the house. A digital control system automates the closing and opening of the storm proof motorized louvers based on indoor temperature , taking advantage of the cool ocean breeze for free cooling.
