Grand Valley State University | Muskegon, MIThe Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center in Muskegon is the first commercial project in the world to integrate fuel cell technology, a heat-recovery system for heating and air conditioning, solar photovoltaics and a nickel-hybrid battery storage system. THE 26,000 sqft facility was the result of a partnership between the City, GVSU and the Michigan Public Service Commission. Also, it is one of the first facilities in Michigan to pursue and obtain the LEED Gold rating. The under floor UFAD HVAC system contributed to a better than 35% (ASHRAE 90.1 Standard) building energy performance. MDS provided mechanical engineering services. |
